PAST & Present

The 1909 W.F. Crawford photo shows the Gisborne Hotel on the right which was at the time of its demolition in 1971 the oldest surviving hotel in town. There were 49 rooms, 3 bars, a bottle store and a flagon bar. The owners, Dominion Breweries, had a policy of ample carparking which led to the licence being transfered to the present D.B. Gisborne Hotel built in Tyndall Rd in 1970. The W&K carpark and Woodward Iles are in the foreground of the 1993 photo.
