How can I view articles?

You can:

  • Read the contents or view images of the original printed pages of a particular text.
  • Read transcripts of sections which contain links to scanned images of the original printed page. In this mode you can navigate through an entire text.
  • View illustrations that have been separated out from the text. In this mode you can also view all the illustrations in a particular section one after the other.
  • View a large version of each illustration by double clicking the image itself.

How can I find articles and other material?

Browsing

  • Text
    Click the ‘Browse texts’ next to the ‘About’ link in the top navigation bar. You will then see the front covers of each text. From there you can click the links under each text to view its contents.
  • Section
    Once you’re looking at a particular text you can then browse through the transcribed pages, the images of the original pages, and the illustrations that have been separated out from the text.

Search

  • Basic search
    Use the search box in the top-right hand side of the screen to search by keyword. Type one or more keywords into this box and click Go’. The search engine will find any records that include all your search terms. You can also search for an exact phrase by enclosing the words with quotation marks.
  • Advanced search
    If you didn’t find what you were looking for using the basic search, you can do a more precise search using the author, title and publication date fields. Use quotation marks to enclose phrases and the words ‘and’, ‘or’ between words.
  • By person
    You can also search for works or texts featuring a particular person. Click the ‘A-Z people link in the top navigation bar. Choose letter of the alphabet that corresponds to the first letter of the person’s last name. A list of people will appear. Click the person’s name you are interested in to reveal a list of all the works featuring that person.
