£10,000 Smile

×

Well, who wouldn't smile, having just won £10,000 in an overseas lottery? This was the good Christmas fortune of Mrs Florence Anderson, of Grafton Road, a widow with two adult sons, who went up town shopping one morning last month and returned to find the bank manager waiting on her doorstep with the good news. Congratulations, Mrs Anderson, who is the second Gisborne resident in 12 months to collect the big prize.

By the smile Norm Tasker is wearing in the pictures at right, you'd think he had won £20,000 for Christmas, instead of a pair of lace-trimmed what-nots. Perhaps the main thing isn't the £10,000 but the smile? Pictures were taken at the R.S.A. Ladies' Section "husbands' night", and show Norm carrying Mrs Trevor Charles to victory in a game, opening his prize, and displaying it for public approbation.

Last Link. Picture from way up East Cape shows piles being driven for the last of the bridges which will eliminate river crossings which periodically isolate the cape.
