Bowling Season Opened

The 1960-61 bowling season in the Gisborne district opened in dramatic weather last month. The sun shone for the first ceremony at the R.S.A. Club (above), but by mid afternoon play was washed out by a violent thunderstorm, complete with forked lightning and heavy rain.

Here Mr Fred Barwick, president of the R.S.A. Club, is speaking at the opening,, On his right is the Centre president, Mr George Brodie.

Under a sky filled with cumulus clouds, the Gisborne R.S.A. Bowling Club's spacious new club-house and social hall are seen as the opening ceremony of the 1960-61 bowling season is conducted on the club's greens. Voluntary labour by a willing band of enthusiasts built the new amenities, worth in excess of £5000, at a saving of £1000.
