Members of the Gisbone Car Club assembled in Grey Street outside the new premises of Newton King Ltd., ready for the start of the annual Newton King cup trial event. The 180–mile route included the Wharekopae, Te Wera, Motu and Whakarau roads. The trophy was won by B. S. Lawrence, with only 23pts deducted. His car is opposite the group of people in picture at left.

Bystanders who have seen this strange craft travelling in the city streets might not know that it has a warrant of fitness. The owner, Mr Alf Anderson (left) has plans to make a modern body over the framework. The preliminary stage is watched with interest by Messrs Lionel Neill and Bryce Knox.
