TECHNOLOGY IN SCHOOLS

BP issued schools a Technology Challenge to encourage lateral thinking and co-operative group effort incorporating fun into problem solving. Most schools in the district took part in various ways. Photo News visited Makaraka School to see some Kiwi ingenuity in action. The task for the senior school was to construct a freestanding flagpole which could support a flag using newspaper, 6m of string, 1 roll ofcello tape, scissors and 1m of masking tape within 20 minutes. The junior section required the construction of a similar project but using straws, Plasticine and an egg crate for a base.
