RSA REUNION

The Gisborne Memorial R S A Club was the venue for a reunion of 80 of an original 710 men of the 29th, 30th and 48th Batteries of the 6th Field Artillery who manned 24 twenty five pound guns in the North African and later the Italian Campaign during WW2 The returned servicemen who attended, many with their wives, renewed old aquaintances and retold the history of those desperate years of fighting for King and Country. The 6th Field Artillery were perhaps best remembered for their part in the El Alamein struggle which proved to be the turning point of the Second World War. The weekend culminated with a short memorable service by Captain Janee Sawyer of the Salvation Army. The men were reunited to remember "... the dead and the wounded that came chiefly from the bravest and the best."
