Past and Present

The Matawhero saleyards is still a great meeting place for country people. Everything from the latest in stock prices and weather forecasts, to who is going to be in the next All Black team, is discussed in the noisy arena. The fashions may have changed somewhat since 1902 and the agents, buyers and sellers up a level higher, but essentially the saleyards remain a focal point indicating future trends for the men and women of the land and their stock firms amid the bellowing of cattle, shouting of agents and clatter of trucks.
