+ Red Cross Week +
Red Cross Week was held recently and while a lot of effort sees the organisation helping out in distant fields it is also possibly not realised that the local branch does a tremendous amount of work on the home front. The sorting and distribution of clothing, meals on wheels, and various other community supportive activities keep the volunteers busy.
Volunteer members sorting contributed clothing. The best is kept for distribution to worthy recipients while that of lesser quality is sold at a monthly sale.
Garments are put away, after being checked, to be ready for use when required.
Members man the sewing machines regularly to keep clothing ready for distribution.

Meals-On-Wheels are collected by volunteers from the Maternity Hospital kitchen.
Mesdames Hankey and McMurray prepare for a delivery round of midday meals.
Two recipients take delivery of their meals.
The hospital shop-on-wheels is also manned by volunteers and is taken around the wards daily.
The library-on-wheels is another hospital service organised by the Red Cross. This service operates from a small room in the hospital where an extensive range of books is kept.
