What a Day!

A sightseeing flight over the city and environs by Air Gisborne; a chauffeured Oldsmobile Cutlass from Landau Motors for the day; chicken and salad platters supplied by the Sandown Hotel, and a case of bubbly from Williams & Kettle, partaken of during a luncheon cruise on Graham Castles' and Bruce Gray's luxury yacht; a sauna and massage at the Sauna Centre; a hairdo for the lady at Remondes; and a wing-ding wind-up dinner at the Sandown Hotel was won by Mrs Moya Kirkham, Waitangi Street. This was the prize for the "My Favourite Day Dream" competition, the brainstorm of Radio Gisborne copywriters Caroline Arapeta and Jean Fisher. Needless to say it attracted innumerable entries. Here is Mrs Kirkham's winning entry.

The sword is laid upon my shoulder,
And people all around are still,
Tears of joy are in my eyes,
As a dulcet voice begins to fill
the abbey's depths with words of praise ...
recognised, a turn of phrase ...
...... that I had writ some time before
......... and thought it wasted
... but, no more!
By a wondorous quirk of fate,
I've just been dubbed ...

...... Poet Laureate!
