Mr Vincenzo Mare

People and Their Hobbies

Period furniture is the hobby of Mr Vincenzo Mare, a retired cabinet-maker of Waerenga-a-hika, who migrated to New Zealand from Italy at the age of 23 after learning his exacting trade in his homeland.

During his working life, he has made pianos, violins and guitars, as well as furniture and conventional cabinet-making work.

Now 64 years of age, he justifiably prides himself on the fine and detailed craftsmanship he puts into his work. His home abounds with beautiful items of antique furniture, hand sculptured from Spanish mahogany, French polished to a glowing finish, and lavishly upholstered.
