Fresh Fish Exported
The Gisborne firm of East Coast Fisheries recently exploited a new export market for fish when they dispatched several shipments of packaged fresh fish by air to Australia.
The efficiency of air transport made the feat possible. One day the fish were swimming around in East Coast waters, and the next day they were being served in Sydney restaurants.
On hand to see a one-ton shipment of terekihi loaded onto an aircraft at Darton Field were Mrs Esme Tombleson, M.P., who has been largely responsible for the promotion of the fishing industry in New Zealand at Government level, Mr A. G. McHugh, president of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, and Mr John A. Morey, the Australian Government Trade Commissioner.
