The residents of Tokomaru Bay are now the proud owners of a concrete boat launching ramp, which extends from the bitumen road to below low tide level, and which will handle any craft carried on a trailer.
Previously, boat owners had launched their craft on the sandy beach, but unfortunately, high seas washed the sand away, leaving sharp jagged rocks.
Mr Dick Porter initiated the project when he attempted to break the peaks off the rocks with his sledgehammer. Other members of the community came to his assistance, and formed a working bee, setting to to construct the new ramp.
The working bee is pictured above, from left: W. Forrester, J. Savage, B. Chaffey, W. Brown, Mrs W. Campbell, W. Lewis, Mrs W. Lewis, Mrs J. Andrews, J. Andrews, J. Chaffey, I. Stevenson, W.
